The Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) has recently implemented several artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to significantly enhance health and safety processes within its operations. This initiative includes technologies such as Neuron 5, SMARTi, and AR360, aimed at boosting both equipment efficiency and operational safety.
A Strategic Effort to Integrate AI
ADNOC has launched a digital and innovation strategy to weave AI throughout its value chain, with the objectives of improving safety, reducing emissions, and maximizing value. One key component of this strategy is the Neuron 5 technology, developed by ADNOC in collaboration with ADNOC’s Thamama Excellence Center, AIQ, and AVEVA. Neuron 5 autonomously monitors the performance of critical equipment, facilitating preventive maintenance and reducing unplanned downtimes.
Innovation and Implementation of AI Tools
Besides Neuron 5, ADNOC has also rolled out the SMARTi solution to enhance operational safety on its fleet. SMARTi leverages AI algorithms to analyze video footage in real-time, detecting and categorizing safety behaviors, incidents, and hazardous scenarios. This solution has been integrated into the existing video surveillance systems of ADNOC Logistics and Services’ (ADNOC L&S) 86 vessels.
Furthermore, the AR360 solution, developed by AIQ and SLB, is employed to improve reservoir management and optimize field development planning. AR360 shortens the planning timeline while extending well lifespan and recovery rates.
Benefits Recorded from AI Integration
The deployment of these AI technologies has already shown remarkable results. Neuron 5 has potentially slashed unplanned downtime by 50% and extended planned maintenance intervals by 20%. SMARTi has bolstered safety on ships by automatically detecting security protocol breaches and incidents. AR360 has optimized reservoir management, boosting recovery rates and cutting emissions.
These initiatives underscore ADNOC’s commitment to leveraging AI to responsibly meet the growing global energy demand while enhancing the safety and efficiency of its operations.
In conclusion, the integration of AI into ADNOC’s operations marks a significant step towards the continuous improvement of health and safety. Not only do these innovative technologies boost equipment and operational safety, but they also contribute to more sustainable and efficient energy production.
