ADNOC Expands AI-Powered Well Digitalization Program to Over 2,000 Wells

Futuristic oil well landscape in Abu Dhabi showcasing AI and 5G technology integration with digital interfaces and a high-tech control room.

ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company) has recently announced a $920 million contract to expand its well digitalization program to over 2,000 wells across the Bab, Bu Hasa, and South East fields. This initiative leverages advanced artificial intelligence solutions and a private 5G network to enhance operational efficiency and safety, significantly contributing to the economic growth of the United Arab Emirates.

Program Background and Objectives

ADNOC’s well digitalization program aims to greatly enhance operational efficiency and safety by employing cutting-edge artificial intelligence technologies and a private 5G network. The contract, awarded to Jereh Oil & Gas Engineering Corporation, is set for completion by 2027 and will cover the Bab, Bu Hasa, and South East fields. With this expansion, ADNOC reaffirms its commitment to leading technological innovations in the oil sector while ensuring safer and more sustainable operations.

Technologies and Implementation

The program involves the installation of remote detection and well operation equipment and the use of integrated sensors to transmit real-time data via ADNOC and e&’s private 5G network. These data enable AI tools like RoboWell to autonomously manage well operations, thereby enhancing productivity and safety by minimizing downtime. The integration of AI into these processes not only optimizes performance but also predicts and resolves potential issues before they impact operations.

Economic and Environmental Impact

More than 80% of the contract’s value will be reinvested in the UAE’s economy through ADNOC’s In-Country Value (ICV) program, supporting economic growth and local diversification. Additionally, this initiative aligns with ADNOC’s broader strategy to become the world’s most AI-integrated oil company and achieve decarbonization goals, including reducing methane emissions and developing renewable energy sources. This reinforces ADNOC’s commitment to sustainable and innovative practices that benefit both the local economy and the global environment.

In summary, ADNOC’s expansion of its well digitalization program marks a significant step towards embracing advanced technologies in the energy sector, enhancing both operational efficiency and safety while contributing to the sustainable economic growth of the United Arab Emirates.
